26-10-2018: FINAL PROGRAM JUST RELEASED!

The workshop titled “Adulteration and Fraud of Botanical and Natural Health Ingredients: issues, challenges and prevention tools for the Industry” – which takes place on 29 – 30 November in Frankfurt and can easily be combined with Health & Nutrition Week and Health ingredients Europe – has been organised by botanical extracts supplier EUROMED and the American Botanical Council (ABC), with the support of Hylobates Consulting, Smart Short Courses, ExtrasyntheseHealth & Nutrition Week and Hi Europe. The programme features eminent international speakers and contains five sessions covering the nature and magnitude of the problem; the risk assessment challenge; the response from industry; health implications; and tools to avoid and prevent adulteration.

Mark Blumenthal, Founder and Executive Director of ABC and co-founder of the Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program (BAPP), together with his colleague Dr Stefan Gafner, Chief Science Officer at the ABC will be speaking at the event and share their experiences of the BAPP. “We want to present the most recent data and adulteration cases to help industry stay informed,” says Dr Gafner in an interview on the event (http://healthandnutritionweek.com/tools-tackling-adulteration-health-ingredients-botanical).

Ms. Anna Mulá and Mr. Agustín Villar (Euromed) will focus their presentation on Full Traceability, High Quality Production and Exhaustive Analytical Control within Euromed. One of Euromed’s key products is Saw Palmetto extract. Through decades of experience and production of this standardized botanical extract, Saw Palmetto will be one important example of their presentation, as it is a frequently adulterated ingredient based on current literature.

Other speakers at this event will include Professor Anna-Rita Bilia, President, Society of Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA), Italy, who will examine some of the challenges and solutions to preventing adulteration in herbal medicines; Patrick Coppens of Food Supplement Europe, a leading regulatory expert on Botanicals; Michel Horn from the European Federation of Associations of Health Products Manufacturers, who will focus on quality; Bauke van der Veen from EUROPAM (the European Herbs Growers Association); Johannes Novak, from the Institute for Animal Nutrition and Functional Plant Compounds, University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna; Dr. Luca Bucchini, Managing Director of Hylobates Consulting, Italy, Julian Diaz, Quality Control Manager of BotaniCert, France; Joris Geelen, Partner of Food Compliance International, Belgium; Len Monheit, Managing Partner of Trust Transparency Center (TTC), USA; Mr. David Trosin, NSF Dietary Supplements, USA and Dr. René de Vaumas, President & CSO Extrasynthese, France.
The day-and-a-half event will be chaired by Ms. Heather Granato, Vice President, Content, Health & Nutrition Network.
